Building Skills and Capacities of WASH Practitioners - WASH Institute

BUILDING SKILLS AND CAPACITIES OF WASH PRACTITIONERS

We empower sanitation professionals with context-driven, role based, and immersive learning experience.

We aim to establish a WASH training program with 5 to 7 partner institutes to deliver professional trainings and handholding services to WASH stakeholders across India by 2028.

THE PROBLEM

India is investing an $5B over 5 years in the WASH sector. There is a massive need to build capacities across all stakeholder groups for this investment to realize the desired outcomes.

Capacity building and trainings should lead to rapid action and outputs on the ground to achieve SDG targets by 2030.

Urgent need to transform existing WASH approaches to achieve outcomes while addressing the needs of diverse geo-climatic regions across India.

OUR APPROACH

We help cities adopt data driven approach to understand the risks, identify gaps, engage communities, and take action for clean toilets, safe wastewater management, and reuse of treated wastewater.

Conduct Effective Training Programs

Our programs are designed to empower participants to take action and achieve their goals. We are biased toward action, so our training objectives help participants make positive changes and take proactive steps. Starting with our vision of access to clean and safe water and sanitation, we work backward, breaking down the path into clear milestones. Our training then equips stakeholders with the knowledge and skills they need to reach each one.

Ensure Coherence

We align our training with the external environment so participants can immediately apply their new knowledge. As part of our needs assessment and design, we map existing policies, programs, and funding opportunities to stakeholder roles. When necessary, we also provide technical assistance to ensure the ecosystem is aligned.

Monitor Efficacy of our Programs Continuously

We use proven indicators to monitor training quality, knowledge retention, and real-world impact. This continuous monitoring allows us to refine our programs for sustained effectiveness and track stakeholder impact even after training is complete.

Incorporate Sustainability

We build the capabilities of local individuals and strengthen regional institutions. This ensures training incorporates local context and that ongoing support can be provided independently, without our continuous presence.

Strive for Execution Quality

We have developed a battery of quality assurance protocols to ensure that every training, no matter who delivers, follows and adheres to a defined standard.

OUR IMPACT

Our programs impact change at an ecosystem level - from grassroots to policy making.
